Tresses in Distress? Tips To Repair Damaged Hair
As with your body and your skin, having beautiful hair takes work. Hair needs good nutrition, minimal stress and of course, great grooming habits.
Repeated bleaching, dyeing, perming and straightening causes hair to become dull and lose its luster. Here are some tips to prevent damage and keep your hair looking beautiful year-round:
Moisturize. If you have long hair, leave-in conditioner can help keep your tresses full of life. Cold weather in particular can disrupt the moisture balance of the scalp, so make sure to use conditioner in the winter months.
Give your hair the spa treatment. When it comes to restorative, indulgent beauty masques, why should your skin have all the fun? Give your locks a luxurious therapeutic spa treatment with a hair masque that is perfect for tresses in distress as well as healthy hair that just needs an occasional pick-me-up.
For example, Nature's Gate offers new deep-conditioning hair masques made with nourishing proteins and organic botanicals. The masques come in chamomile for color-treated hair; jojoba to revitalize damaged hair; aloe vera to moisturize normal to dry hair; and herbal, a hydrating masque for all hair types. For the best results, leave the hair masque on for two to five minutes after shampooing.
Steer clear of heat. Use styling products such as curling irons and hot rollers sparingly. If you use a hair dryer, set it to the coolest setting possible and do not concentrate the heat on one area of the scalp for a long period of time.
Protect your hair from the sun. Just like your skin, your hair can become sun-damaged. Wear a hat or apply a conditioner that contains sunscreen to block out damaging ultraviolet rays.

Hot Hair Trends for Summer
Summer's here, and for many women, that means a fun, flirty new 'do. But summer hair has its own set of challenges, too.
Thirty-four percent of women between the ages of 25 and 55 say dryness is their top concern for summer, followed by frizz, breakage, sun lightening and chlorine damage, according to a survey conducted by Aussie Hair Care.
Lisa Chiccine, stylist for Infusium 23, has identified some of this season's top trends, and provides the following tips for summer hair care:
* This season's hair color is "butterscotch," so think caramel colors.
To get this look, tell your colorist to put thick but lighter-colored streaks near the front of your face. Then apply thinner sections of the same tone as your hair tapers back.
* Ponytails are out this season; messy buns are in.
First, brush your hair into a ponytail and then secure it with an elastic band at the nape of your neck.
With a pick comb, tease your hair and then wrap it in a bun. Spritz some hair spray to hold the look.
* Unfurl the curl. Instead of curls, think big waves - like the ocean.
Take a large barrel curler and wrap large sections of your hair around the outside of it. Do not stick your hair in between the tongs, as this will cause denting.
You should be able to wrap your entire head of hair in six big sections around the curler. If you have straight hair, this will give it some body; if you have frizzy hair, this will create a cleaner look without much effort.
* The biggest trend for this season is shine.
Apply a shine product onto hair and apply heat with a blow dryer. To achieve the ultimate shine, invest in a blow dryer with a super-thin nozzle. The thinner the nozzle, the more shine is achieved.
Hair experts recommend a variety of serums, sprays and leave-in treatments for soft, shiny hair.
One to try is Aussie Sun-Touched Shine Conditioning Shine Spray, which contains sea kelp for thirsty locks. Spritz onto clean, damp hair and work it through without rinsing. Then style your hair as usual. This and other Aussie products are available in stores nationwide for $2.99.
Business and Family: Moms Can Have It All
Stay-at-home mom? How about stay-at-home CEO?
"Mompreneurs" are part of a trend that's becoming more and more prevalent, as millions of business-minded mothers are starting online companies and operating them from home.
Providers of Internet services are taking note of this increasing number of enterprising mothers. Network Solutions, for example, recently partnered with Victoria Colligan, mother of two and co-founder of a women's networking company called Ladies Who Launch.
The partnership combines Colligan's entrepreneurial know-how with Network Solutions' business-building tools, such as Do-It-For-Me Web sites, easy-to-use templates and flexible e-commerce packages.
But even with such helpful resources, starting a business can be tough, especially when being a mom is top priority. If you're looking to build a Web site and start your own business, Colligan offers the following tips:
Brand your company. Ask yourself: What kind of style do I want for my business? Serious or whimsical? Sophisticated or youthful? Your type of branding could be any of these things, but having a consistent style can grant your company a sense of personality.
Words are key. Carefully determine a handful of keywords that describe your company, and then incorporate these words into your site's URL, page titles and content. This tells Internet search engines what your site is about, so people using these keywords can find your site more easily.
Sell, sell, sell. Don't overlook conventional marketing. Include detailed product descriptions and quality photos of merchandise on your site. A satisfaction guarantee is a great way to exemplify confidence in your product.
Keep it fresh. Give your customers a reason to come back to your Web site. Be sure to add new content whenever it's appropriate and monitor your site to ensure that the content is relevant.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Do your research and find a Web solutions provider that will be available when you need help. Companies like Network Solutions have professional Web designers and search analysts that can help you design and optimize your Web site to attract more customers.

Sleek, Simple Styles Create Easy Summer Looks
If you're still searching for the perfect summer hairstyle that's classy, casual and convenient, you're not alone.
More than 28 percent of women between the ages of 25 and 55 admit they put up their hair into a ponytail or bun in the summer, according to a survey conducted by Infusium 23.
This summer, it's time to give the bun or ponytail a sexy update for a fresh style that still keeps longer locks off your face. Try these breezy summer looks from celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa:
1. Easy beach braids: No ponytail holder? No problem! Separate hair in two sections and pull forward. Loosely braid or twist each section. To secure, spray hair with a flexible hold product like Aussie's new Catch the Wave Sprunch Aerosol Hair Spray at the end of the braid and comb in and upward several times. To turn this into an evening look, wrap braids together in the back and secure with a large bobby pin to make a funky bun.
2. Ponytail pizazz: To create the perfect ponytail, spray a flexible hold hair spray directly on a flat boar bristle brush. With the product on the brush, using both hands, brush the hair with one hand into a smooth ponytail held by the other hand and secure. To finish the look, wrap a small section of hair around the ponytail to hide the hair tie.
3. Beautiful bangs: Want Reese Witherspoon's bangs but don't want to cut your hair? You can create a bang with any length of hair when you wear a headband. Part your hair far on one side, apply a shine-enhancing gel, comb forward and sweep to the side and bobby pin in place. Cover with headband and you suddenly have a long, sweeping bang. Try using different material for your summer headband look; ribbons, belts and scarves are fun alternatives.
4. Head-turning headbands: Headbands look great with textured, healthy, shiny hair. Try using Aussie Catch the Wave Mousse + Leave-in conditioner on damp hair and scrunch up with your hands to create natural waves. This will provide protection from the humid air and add hold to your scrunched curls. Then, take your loose curls and pin up in the back. This is a cute look that makes a stunning profile with a headband.
Fall Fashion Trends: Femininity and Glamour
Don't let the current thermometer reading fool you. Fall is right around the corner, and if you take your cues from the runway, this season is all about being feminine and glamorous.
Color, volume and subtle details are dominating the fashion landscape this season. Fashion editors everywhere are still going wild over metallic - the new neutral - and shiny fabrics, like satin. Whether you use a little or a lot, a splash of color, a hint of volume or a few details can go a long way in creating the perfect look.
First, you need to know what the latest trends are, so here's a glimpse of what's en vogue for fall and how you can use these trends to create endless ensembles.
- Color: Out with citrus shades - yellow, green and orange - and in with the jewel tones - purple, teal and emerald. Use these fun and bold colors to brighten up the neutrals.
- Volume: From batwing arms to wide hems, shirts and pants are getting a little depth. But keep it balanced - pair volume pieces with sleek counterparts.
- Prints, Beads and Embellishments: Decorated apparel is making a comeback this season. Look for everything from plaid prints and embroidery to embellishments and beading. Beware of overdoing it; pick one piece, and keep everything else simple.
Whatever you need - from voluminous extravagance to a pop of color - there is a retailer out there making it easier for you to pull off this season's top looks. Newport News is a fashion editor's favorite for getting the trends each season.
